[Deep down? Nora wishes the drama would be over, but she is willing to ride this out until it reaches a good conclusion. She's willing to do anything to help both Jaune and Pyrrha settle their issues. Maybe their relationship won't be the same, but at least they would come to some sort of agreement.
Hopefully they would just do what she told them and be more honest.]
Hi, Pyrrha.
[It's always good to hear from her, especially after the expedition she was on with Yang.]
I'm just in the kitchen.
[Yes, she's eating some cookies out of the jar, but she also set out a plate of leftovers for Zwei.]
[ Still wearing her Steambucks polo and dress pants, Pyrrha does exactly that. Pushing through the door, she peers in. The sight of Nora and Zwei sets her to smiling lightly. Hello, friends!
She settles in at the counter, and you know what will go great with those cookies? Milk. Pyrrha sets about pouring two glasses. ]
[Nora waves. Zwei sprints toward Pyrrha after wolfing down half of his food. She watches eagerly as Pyrrha pours them some milk before popping the last of her cookie into her mouth.]
A bit slow, but that's okay. Practiced some Dunamis, tweaked my exercise routine...aaaaand did the chores assigned to me for the day.
[ Milk thus poured, she kneels to give Zwei a belly rub. He's an easy dog in terms of giving and receiving affection, and is quickly spurred to roll onto his back.
With a smile and a thank you, she accepts the cookie. ]
You've been quite busy. Do you have some time right now? I was hoping we could talk.
[ Smothering any laughter that might escape, Pyrrha offers Nora a napkin. ]
Well, you see, while you were gone—
[ dear dust in the sky, how does she even begin this? Just saying it aloud feels like breaking some unspoken rule, as if all parties had tacitly decided not to speak about it any further. And yet, there are things Pyrrha could use a second opinion on and, more importantly, apologies that need to be made. ]
I actually, um - well, Jaune and I went out and ... [ ?! ] then we came home and I slept in your bed that night, Nora. I'm sorry.
[ what the fuck was that. pyrrha, have you ever told a story in your life ]
[Nora takes the napkin gratefully and swabs her mouth while listening to Pyrrha's story. Or rather, what Pyrrha hoped would pass for a story. She leans against the kitchen counter casually.
It's good to hear that Pyrrha and Jaune went out while Nora was gone. They were taking some steps in moving forward with their relationship, whatever shape or form or status their relationship was in at the moment.
[ Quickly, she seeks to correct any misconceptions Nora might end up holding before they get into the really heavy stuff. Her eventual smile takes on an indulgent tinge. ]
Nora, it wasn't like that.
[ WHAT WAS IT LIKE? Well. ]
... I had actually, um. I got sick in my sheets. Because I - drank too much. Jaune and I. We both did, it seems.
[Her arms drop to her sides, almost limply. She's both relieved and disappointed that the story took this turn instead.
In any case, Nora winces at Pyrrha getting sick on her sheets and she and Jaune getting drunk, and decides not to dwell on what they might have done while they were inebriated.]
That's fine, did you guys find any hangover remedies?
[ Pyrrha Nikos's first hangover food! She hadn't even known what they were before arriving in Verens, so it's been nothing but learning experiences.
Finally, she sits down at the kitchen table. It might be easier this way. ]
Some other things did happen. I am telling you now because I don't quite know where Jaune and I stand, but I don't want you to feel uncomfortable or like you have to mediate further. We're fine, we're just - odd.
[ Nora, please ask. Pyrrha might never say it if you don't. ]
[Tacos? Nora would never have guessed, but she nonetheless files that away in her memory for future reference. For herself, or for her teammates? Possibly for both.
Nora grabs her milk and the jar of cookies before sitting down with Pyrrha at the table, although she only sips at the rest of her milk while Pyrrha continues speaking. Then she slowly raises a hand with an expression that's both curious and awkward.]
So...uh, you kissed and stuff, but you were drunk while doing it? [She looks down at the foot of the table to see if Zwei was still around before coming back up to rest her elbows on the surface.] Did you...talk after you both sobered up?
[Nora's jaw just drops. It feels like, for a moment, all the air around them suddenly stands still and feels so dry.
All that's left is the sound of a loud record scratch as it halts to complete the mood, honestly. And in fact, Pyrrha might just hear one of those, faintly, to punctuate Nora's gaping mouth.]
[ They did eventually! ... Not that it's relevant at the time when this thread is taking place. Let's assume Nora's pep talk was super convincing.
As it is, she flinches somewhat bashfully. With Pyrrha sitting and Nora standing, one of them definitely has control of the scenario, and it's exactly who you think it is.
Her hands clasp in her lap. ]
Nora, it's not - it isn't the first time we've kissed.
[ ?! ]
Truthfully, I'm not sure it matters. Jaune and I swore to remain friends.
[After that outburst, Nora brings her hands away from her hips and onto the table - not even slamming them, as she listens to Pyrrha.
The fact that that wasn't the first time they kissed doesn't surprise Nora. Either way, she and Ren could have heard it straight from Jaune before they set off for Mistral, or Nora would have figured that something had happened between Jaune and Pyrrha before Pyrrha's death.
Nora's posture relaxes and her expression softens from a previously stern one, but she remains standing and therefore still in control of this conversation.
And honestly, so long as Jaune and Pyrrha were friends, that was fine. Nora would have wanted them to end up together together, but perhaps it was better for them not to. At least, not for now. Maybe not ever? Who knows. Nora just wanted them to get along and be an effective team again, and that's enough for her.]
It still does. [Even her voice has been toned back down.] Just...just to clear the air. [She waves her hands about.] You know what I mean. Set things straight, and be honest with Jaune about everything.
[ It's fine if Nora wants to take control of the conversation; Pyrrha didn't hesitate to relinquish it moments ago. She had sought out her teammate's perspective, after all, although she knows she can't keep doing this to Nora. Their friend deserves better that becoming a bit prop and advice dispenser in all this unnecessary drama, especially when she has things of her own to work through. ]
I - I will.
[ At the moment, she certainly intends to try. The later result will be... complex, at best.
Looking a bit more harried, Pyrrha rubs at her face with her hands, sighing out. ]
Things weren't supposed to be this way. [ ... ] I would hate if Ren got here and found us in this inappropriate state. -- I'm sorry, Nora.
Don't be. [Nora reaches out to grip Pyrrha's shoulder gently. In the back of her mind, she thinks that Ren would be able to deal with this too. He'd be too relieved to see Pyrrha alive to complain.
She takes a moment to rock back and forth on the balls of her feet before plopping back down into her chair.]
So...you're okay with just being friends with Jaune? After everything?
[It's not that Nora is going to ship push them, she just wants to be really sure.]
[ Plaintively, she replies, ] Jaune doesn't have those sort of feelings for me.
[ A tiny shrug. ]
Remember when he left to assist with an archaeology expedition? He wrote me a letter explaining why. He left because he'd quarreled with Weiss and was upset about it. [ It's the first time she's admitted that. At first, she had wanted to keep his words as private as he intended them; later, she had simply been embarrassed. She never should have let him kiss her, knowing how he truly feels.
She doesn't let go of Nora's hand, even when she should. ]
[Honestly, there is no such thing as "please let go of my hand now" in Nora's dictionary as long as you're as close to her as Pyrrha is, or closer. So Nora says nothing about Pyrrha still holding her hand.]
Oh. [Nora figures that after all this time, Jaune would certainly not have the same feelings he did for Pyrrha before Beacon fell. He had moved on; unfortunately, Pyrrha was left behind in some way.]
Anyway, even if you'll just be friends, you both still have to be honest with each other.
[She sighs and draws the other girl into a hug.]
I guess...after all this time, he...moved on. [It probably hurts, but that was how Nora saw it.] Somewhat. But I think you still mean a lot to him, even if he doesn't have feelings for you.
[ Pyrrha's own words had been speculation, a quiet assumption based off the evidence available to her. Nora's agreeable confirmation is taken as inarguable proof - after all, she had spent months traveling with Jaune after Pyrrha's absence. If anyone would know, truly, it would be Nora.
She sags a little in her friend's hardy embrace. It's due to relief, or exhaustion, or both. ]
I know. Jaune and I will always be friends.
[ Only one of them has a future now. It's better this way. ]
