Secret Santa Delivery delivered on 12/25

[ For Nora's Secret Santa gift, there will be two packages; one a small platter of assorted cookies and brownies, and the other is a longer package, which has the entire first series (four books) in graphic novel form of your token female action hero vs token villain with lots and lots of intrigue, not so much romance, and explosions! ]

[ It's not that he was participating in any secret santa things or anything like that. It's more like, he considered them to be at the very least potential friends. And as potential friends he wanted to make sure she was bundled up nicely.

So in front of her door there was a box with a note attached. ]

I don't really celebrate this holiday back home myself, but I felt like it would be a wasted opportunity not to send you something. It's getting chilly out and I'd hate for you to catch a cold. I hope you enjoy these gifts and have a happy holiday.

[ it's valentine's day, and weiss has heard all about it from people from earth! she doesn't have a significant other, but it's apparently okay to celebrate with friends, so that's what weiss decides to do. she wakes up really, really early to decorate their house to surprise her former classmates.

and so, when nora leaves her room, she'll that the floor has been decorated with red, yellow, white, and pink rose petals. right in front of her door, too, is a small vase of pink and orange flowers. along with it is a card that reads: ]

Valentine's Day is a annual holiday celebrated by people from Earth. It is honours with love and romance, but has lately been a day to commemorate friendship, as well.

not that weiss would know. she can be pretty mischievous, after all. and she did talk about breaking people's legs once? that was a joke, right? so nora takes her jokes to the next level, right?

Hey, Nora? Do you know what this is? [ she waves a folded piece of paper high enough for nora to see. ] I found it in the mail.

[Nora turns around and looks at the paper, blinking. She seems genuinely clueless.]

Is it an invitation? To a party?

[ the afternoon had been planned as a simple one of lunch and catching up before steven headed out to elios' domain the next day. while nora's company was pleasant as usual, steven couldn't help but notice that her energy seemed particularly subdued today. it's made her easier to keep up with, but it's abnormal from someone like her. that much has him concerned.

he doesn't say anything while they're together, but closer to nightfall when they're both back at their respective homes, steven reaches out to her. ]

Forgive me if I'm imposing, but you seemed somewhat off while we were out today. Is everything all right?

[Nora isn't the type who actively represses her emotions or puts on a front, but at the same time, she doesn't really like talking about sad things unless she's asked directly. She didn't want to be a letdown, especially over lunch with a good friend. But it's hard for her to remain cheerful and energetic when she misses Ren so much.

Sure, she got to see him for a while when she was sent home, but that suddenly seems like ages ago.

So no, Steven isn't imposing. Nora had hoped to take her mind off Ren's absence by hanging out with him, focusing on her chores and her new job, and just being with her friends at home, but today, none of her usual distractions were working.

Her voice over the telepathic connection remains subdued, but Nora makes an attempt to...not sound so down.]

Hi, Steven. I guess...I was just thinking of Ren. My partner. We've known each other since...forever.

[ It takes over a full day after Nora returns from the island excursion before Pyrrha even thinks about broaching this topic. First, she had wanted to ensure her teammate was comfortable, resting, taking some time for herself after hearing what had went on. And then -- well, she can't imagine Nora isn't sick of all this drama.

Dust knows, Pyrrha herself is fairly tired of it. But, as it affects the team, possibly, possibly not...

Better just to get this out. ]

Nora?

[ Gently, Pyrrha's thoughts touch her friend's. ]

Are you home?

[Deep down? Nora wishes the drama would be over, but she is willing to ride this out until it reaches a good conclusion. She's willing to do anything to help both Jaune and Pyrrha settle their issues. Maybe their relationship won't be the same, but at least they would come to some sort of agreement.

Hopefully they would just do what she told them and be more honest.]

Hi, Pyrrha.

[It's always good to hear from her, especially after the expedition she was on with Yang.]

I'm just in the kitchen.

[Yes, she's eating some cookies out of the jar, but she also set out a plate of leftovers for Zwei.]

Dear Nora,

When we were trying to get out of the maze together, I remember being a bit ashamed that I had to think of positive thoughts about you. I hope you didn't take offense to that. It's just a bit challenging to be so nice.

I really do appreciate your company, though. I'm very thankful that you've stuck by me throughout these months that we've been here. We may not have spent a lot of time together while we were at Beacon, but I believe our friendship as strengthened and deepened during our stay here in Empatheias.

You're a very good friend, Nora. I've come to trust you and consider you one of the people I can confide in.

I also really enjoyed our shopping trip together!

[That's so sweet. And it deserves to be reciprocated with something that's literally sweet!

Nora leaves a letter (more like a note) of her own on top of a box of sugar cookies cut into stars at Weiss' door, knocks on it, and takes her leave. Weiss should be able to follow the steps to Nora and Pyrrha's room, however, because Nora did a terrible job of being stealthy.

The letter is written on plain paper signed with a quick drawing of her emblem, but Nora did take pains to write in relatively neat cursive and tie the letter up into a scroll (no, not that kind of scroll) with a length of pink ribbon.]

Dear Weiss,

It's OK, being super nice takes a lot of practice, but I think you're doing real well!

Here's to more shopping trips together! (Next stop, shoes!) And weird tasks.

[ Whenever Nora gets home from work, she'll find two new sights on her dresser. The first is a friendly looking bouquet of pink carnations with a card tucked into the side. The note reads: ]

Hello, Nora. My first task for the new month was helping Sharnaath clear out its unwanted flower population, although it's hard to imagine there is such a thing. I hope you like these, they reminded me of you in a way I can't quite explain.

[ there is absolutely no way that steven is going to reply to nora's broadcast publically unless he's called out, nor does he feel comfortable in facing her in person just yet. it's a delicate, uncomfortable situation, and he's ashamed for letting his memories be so easily manipulated. how could he have let it happen? why didn't he question it more?

he's a coward for not wanting to face her, but something has to be said. as she's flopped down on her bed, she'll hear his voice. ]

I understand if you don't want to speak to me right now, but I'd like to talk. May I?

[Truth be told, Nora wishes she questioned her memories more actively as well. But perhaps, the allure of having a real parent after not having one so long, and having Pokemon to add to her family, had allowed her to get so caught up in those fake memories.

She had kept her distance from him for a while after she finally went back to her real home - well, her real home here in Verens, anyway. Nora understood the need for space and she was more than willing to give it to him, but now that he was the one approaching her, she wasn't about to turn him away.

Only a moment passes before Nora replies.]

Hi, Steven. [There is a touch of sheepishness in her voice.] Absolutely. [That last word sounds very certain, if that is any consolation.]

[ Toward the end of the day, Nora will find a special something in her mailbox! It's for both Ren and Nora, but only one of them has an IC inbox any control over the mail in the RWYJNPRP house. ]

[ A casually dressed Pyrrha hovers by the door of their room, ready to head out. It's cupcakes-with-Nora day - but, more importantly, it is also now girl talk day.

She's excited. :D

They finally have something other than combat to talk about. :D ]

[Nora bounds out of the room, bouncing with delight and dressed just as casually - in a simple skirt and blouse.]

[ When Nora wakes, she will find that her crystal is glowing! Her emotion drops for the month of Octha have resonated with Empatheias' giant crystal, and a reaction has been formed.

By her feet, she will find a small box! Inside is a pink electronic toothbrush. However, there are no slots for batteries. It seems that she has to will it on and off via emotions.

[ as he usually does, steven sends skarmory on a delivery to remnant house. the main part of it is a gift basket with various goodies and a simple envelope for each resident with 50 sylvs. for nora, there is a specifically addressed box with an accompanying card written in neat cursive. ]

Nora,

Though I'm not sure if your world celebrates any sort of holiday in this season, it felt right to find something to commemorate the occasion. It's been my pleasure to get to know you over the past year; you've been an invaluable friend, and even a confidante in recent months. I can't thank you enough for that.

Consider this a token of my gratitude and well wishes for the future. Should you ever need anything, always keep me in mind.

[ on the 24th, Nora will find a box in front of their house addressed to her. If she goes looking through it, this time she won't find any food, but an outfit that feels sentimental. She'll find an outfit that looks almost like En and Atsushi's Battle lover uniform, but instead of pants, there is a skirt. The color scheme for hers is pink and sitting on top of the outfit is a bracelet that looked just like the one En and Atsushi were always wearing. ]

En and I have been here for quite some time. And during that time, you have become like one of us. Like family... or one of our best friends... something of that nature? So En and I wanted to give you something so you could be one of us. While it doesn't come with any magical powers,... well I don't think you'll need them seeing as how strong you are.

[With Ren having returned to their world recently, Yang kinda wants to do a little extra something for Nora, especially given the theme of this holiday. So, Nora will find herself the recipient of the following:

One (1) very punny card signed from Yang.

A box of homemade chocolate chip cookies.

And a plate of chocolate chip pancakes with a cute little personal bottle of syrup to go with it.

[ At some point after Schrodinger's meltdown at From The Hearth, Pyrrha will reach out to Nora telepathically. In this case, it feels too impersonal to use text. Her voice is deadened in the aftermath of too much emotion, like something wrung out until all its colour and life are gone. It's a tone Nora has heard before, honestly. Largely, during her - their - last few days at Beacon. ]

Nora? I'm sure you've already noticed by now, but Jaune went back home... so did Ruby, Weiss and Yang. I - I believe it's only temporary, but...

[ She trails off for a moment. It isn't the same when you're no longer part of someone's life and they've gone home to live it. Pyrrha doesn't say that, though. ]

I'm not going to be home for a few days. I'm not going to Verati, either... I just need to be alone for a little while. However, I'm just a call away if you need me, alright? [ A beat. ] I love you, Nora. [ IT IS IMPORTANT THAT SHE KNOWS. ] Talk to you soon.

[Oh no. It's clear from Pyrrha's tone that this is serious. When Pyrrha mentions that Jaune, Ruby, Weiss and Yang are missing, Nora realizes that Pyrrha has yet to experience people closer to her disappearing and then reappearing again with new memories. It must have been a shock to her, especially in the case of Jaune.

Nora's heart sinks a little - but just a little. She knows this phenomenon already, but that doesn't mean she's thrilled.]

Pyrrha...

[She needed Pyrrha now, with less company in the house. Not that she didn't enjoy hanging out with whoever was left, of course. It's just that, it's the people she's particularly close to who were whisked away.

Her voice catches in her throat before she can speak up again.]

Just take care of yourself, okay? I'm here too. And - [The last bits do cheer her up, all things considered.] I love you too. I always have.

[ Sometime late at night (11pm), Jaune had asked Nora to meet him alone "where the fire burns bright" (their backyard)... in which she'll find him sitting in front of an impromptu bonfire.

He looks extremely serious. This is a very dramatic scene. ]

Nora... thank you for coming. Please have a seat.

[It wasn't hard to find a fire burning bright in their house, considering that it was already late at night and most, if not all, people in their home were already in bed and/or asleep.

The gravity of the situation gives Nora pause and she remains standing in front of Jaune and the bonfire, looking from one to the other and back again.]

O...kay...?

[She blinks, but nonetheless settles down to sit beside him.]

Is this about the leftovers Apple ate? If it is, I'm already training her to not eat people leftovers!

[ Ren is gone, again, and - ]

I know today isn't our usual bakery day but I picked up some cupcakes for you. ...Can I come up to your room?

[ She may very well fumble her way through this. It isn't as if Pyrrha's overbearing enthusiasm to help comes with the subtly needed for more slippery moments of grief, but Nora is worth an attempt... as blundering as it might be. ]

[Considering how long she has been here, one might think Nora was entirely used to people coming and going, including her own friends. But experiencing Ren's disappearance a second time - without even his amulet to show that he would return - was just as painful as the last.

Pyrrha's voice interrupts her thoughts. Nora tried to dwell on the good times, making it official, dating, even dancing together during Helisium...but now, just as quickly as it had all began, it was over. Who knew if Ren would remember all this if he ever returned to Empatheias?

Pyrrha was like a jolt back to reality - but it was not unwelcome.]

Yeah. Please.

[Nora will be found sitting cross-legged on her bed, looking downcast. Even her voice over telepathy seems to have been drained of her usual energy.]
